What we are
The International Time Trial Cycling Union is a nonprofit dedicated to one thing: world records in the individual time trial, for every human-powered vehicle and every kind of course. We make record-setting accessible to anyone who wants to try.
We exist because no one else does this. The UCI governs time trials but only for standard bikes, and only within the context of road racing. Ultra-cycling bodies focus exclusively on long-distance events. Track and velodrome organizations serve their own disciplines at specific events. Nobody was keeping track of the solo rider who wants to go as fast as possible over a measured distance — on a road bike on a paved road… a gravel bike on an unpaved road… a recumbent bike on a track. Whatever course you want to ride, on whatever strictly human-powered vehicle you want to pedal, we are here to help you set a record.
The time trial
The time trial is the purest test in cycling. No tactics, no drafting, no peloton to hide in. Just you, your bike, a course, and a clock. The strongest rider wins — not the most strategic, not the luckiest, not the one who saved the most for the sprint. The one who rode the fastest.
ITTCU records are set in that spirit. Every attempt is solo. Every course is an out-and-back or loop, designed to neutralize wind and elevation. Every submission includes GPS data, power, heart rate, and cadence — not because we don’t trust you, but because the data tells a complete story that makes every record meaningful for generations to come.
Open to all
Cycling has a gatekeeping problem. Governing bodies have historically excluded recumbents, trikes, velomobiles, and other human-powered vehicles from official competition — not because they’re less legitimate, but because they don’t fit a narrow definition of what a bicycle should look like.
ITTCU rejects that definition.
If it’s human-powered, has no motor, and can be ridden on a course — it belongs here. Standard road bikes and TT bikes. Fixed-gear bikes. Recumbent two-wheelers and trikes. Velomobiles and streamliners. Handcycles. Tandems. We maintain separate record categories for every vehicle type so that riders compete fairly against one another, and every category is treated with equal seriousness.
The recumbent rider who sets a 100km record deserves the same recognition as the upright rider who does. ITTCU gives them both a place to stand.
How it works
ITTCU is built to be accessible to any rider, anywhere in the world, without requiring a support crew, an official, or a sanctioned event. If you have a GPS head unit, a power meter, and a compliant course, you have everything you need to attempt a world record.
Register your attempt at ittcu.org before you ride. Complete your effort. Submit your FIT file, your activity link, and your photos within 14 days. Our portal handles the rest — automated verification, Records Committee review, and certification — with your digital record certificate delivered by email.
The first rider to set a record in any category does so for free. We want the database full, not the treasury.
Who we are
ITTCU is governed by a volunteer Records Committee of experienced cyclists committed to the integrity of the record-keeping process. We are not affiliated with any national cycling federation, equipment manufacturer, or racing series. Our only interest is an accurate, complete, and permanent record of human-powered time trial performance across every category of rider and vehicle.
We are funded by record registration fees and optional annual memberships. Our decisions are never influenced by advertisers or sponsors. No politics.

You don’t need to be a professional to set a world record. You need to be fast enough to beat whoever came before you — or fast enough to be the first.
